For the first time in Western Australia, horse enthusiasts will have access to a nationally certified course in equine hoofcare.

The Australian Certified Equine Hoofcare Practitioner Course, which has previously only been available in Tasmania, will be delivered at Muresk Institute in September.

The course will teach participants about the prevention and treatment for equine injury and disease and will equip them to carry out comprehensive hoofcare procedures.

Muresk Institute General Manager Prue Jenkins said the qualification benefits people wanting to care for their own horses or anyone looking for a career in the equine industry.

“This course would be particularly beneficial for regional Western Australians who would otherwise depend on a travelling farrier or trimmer for basic hoof care,” she said.

“Muresk prides itself on providing industry driven education and training opportunities. I’m pleased we’ve been able to partner with Central Regional TAFE and The Australian Certified Equine Hoof Care Practitioners to bring this course to WA.”
