The team behind the scenes
Not only is Muresk Institute an agricultural skills hub, facilitating the training of more than 2,000 students each year, but it’s a 898 hectare working farm, conference venue and accommodation facility.
It takes a dedicated team to ensure its smooth running and here we introduce you to them.
No one day is the same for General Manager Prue Jenkins. You’ll find her in a boardroom discussing the strategic priorities of industry, on the phone to training providers ensuring Muresk is at the forefront brokering contemporary training and out at community events, speaking to prospective students about all Muresk has to offer.
Business Development Manager John Smoker is one busy man. He’s responsible for marketing Muresk, customising training programs to meet clients’ needs and liaising with and organising leases for training providers. John was heavily involved in Muresk’s inaugural Dog verses Drone competition in May which showcased modern farming technologies to secondary school students.
Management Support Officer Dina Barrett-Lennard is the backbone of our team, providing support to all areas of the business. Dina has her finger on the pulse and is up to date with all events at Muresk. She’s also the photographer behind many of our Facebook posts, capturing students in training and other activities on and off site.
Dominique Esszig is the Client Services and Infrastructure Coordinator with 38 years history at Muresk. Well known amongst the students, Dominique coordinates the long and short term accommodation bookings and leasing of Muresk’s conference facilities. She also manages the contracts for onsite support services.
Supporting Dominique is Client Services Officer Pauline Mallick. If you call up to book the conference facilities it will likely be Pauline on the other end of the line. She is responsible for ensuring all our client accommodation and conferencing needs are met.
Senior Project Officer Carla Swift is the one in the know about the extensive list of short courses available at Muresk. She liaises with community members and industry partners to gauge what training courses are needed and what trainers are available to run them. She also coordinates the annual short course calendar and responds to course expressions of interest.
Muresk may be a modern training facility but some of its buildings are more than 100 years old. Facilities and Services Coordinator Graeme Wescombe is responsible for ensuring they are all maintained to a high standard. Luckily for him and visitors, a lot of the Muresk buildings have been renovated and are looking pretty spick and span.
Last but by no means least is Acting Farm Supervisor Brad Meagher. With 900 hectares of land to manage there’s plenty to keep Brad occupied. As well as ensuring the sheep and cattle are fed and watered, he also liaises with industry partners to ensure their needs are met under the many partnership arrangements hosted by Muresk. Steve Wainewright will start as the new farm supervisor in mid October. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience including a Degree in Agribusiness, Masters in Tropical Animal Science, management of the UWA Ridgefield Farm and dewatering project in the Pilbara.
